The reason I ask is because in the current season of Doctor Who the
Doctor who dies is a couple of hundred years older than the one the
Ponds are currently traveling with, yet he looks the same. Since most
of the Doctors don't make it through more than a few years without
something happening to them to cause a regeneration, then it seems
extremely improbable that the current Doctor is going to avoid
circumstances for a couple of centuries that could lead to him having
to regenerate. The only thing that could explain how he looks the same
would appear to be that he can at some time regenerate into a previous
form. But that wouldn't make sense if it's been established that each
regeneration produces a form completely different from any previous
one.
