'Whale Wars' back for additional
Animal Planet's "Whale Wars" continues to be restored for any fifth season after several weeks of back-and-forth over if the show's protags, a militant animal-privileges group known as the Ocean Shepherds, would have the ability to find any whalers to chase away after apparently frightening away Japanese whaling concern the Institute of Cetacean Research in the finish of season four. The Ocean Shepherd campaign chronicled in season five will go back to the waters around Antarctica, where whaling through the ICR continues. Even just in a clip for that coming season, Animal Planet prexy and g.m. Marjorie Kaplan teases this might be the final season for that show the Ocean Shepherds have produced lots of worldwide tension using the ICR, that is backed through the Japanese government. Japanese whalers contend the ICR's activities are legal and above board the Ocean Shepherds the company's mentioned agenda is really a smokescreen which its harpooning and processing of whales violates the moratorium on whaling in worldwide waters. Just before the big event, I sitting lower using the pair to go over the way they both recognition and safeguard their parents' legacy.Desi, we do not help you at many Lucy-related occasions. Why was this something you thought about being a part of?Desi: Well, My home is Boulder City, Nevada. But this can be a large deal. It is the 60th anniversary from the show and it is Mother's 100 birthday if she remained as around. And also the music is actually why I am here. Lucie and I've been focusing on a reveal that tributes Dad's music. We made it happen like a benefit after which carried out it as being a concert show known as Babalu. We are moved very deeply through the music, therefore we enjoy speaking to individuals about this side of I Really Like Lucy. Dad's contribution and also the music. What were the roots from the music of I Really Like Lucy?Desi: I Really Like Lucy was really produced from Dad's orchestral show. Mother and Father wanted to ascertain if people would accept them live, because CBS wasn't too sure it might work or otherwise. In individuals days they were not sure a redhead American should be also married to some Cuban. It had been very questionable. But the pair of them went along with dad's band and also the people loved it.Lucie: After Father died I discovered each one of these plans and tapes. Stuff we'd never heard before that inspired me to operate more about Latin music. What's the way forward for your Babalu show?Lucie: He does not wish to travel, so there's no future.Desi: [Laughs] Maybe we'll perform a run in Las vegas.Have you got a favorite song from I Really Like Lucy?Lucie: I actually do. It's in the Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour once they visited Havana for that flashback showing how Lucy and Ough met. The song is "Which Means I Really Like You" where he plays the Conga and she or he plays the table before her formed just like a Conga.Desi: That's a high quality one. I love the main one about me being born. "We are Getting an infant My Baby and Me."I imagine lots of marketing people want to turn your folks into Mickey and Minnie Mouse - with every imaginable type of retailing. How can you safeguard their legacy?Desi: You will find there's company known as Desilu Too where Lucie and that i police any merchandise. We have been doing the work given that they died. We make use of a company from Chicago known as Memorable Corporation. We required to have assistance to police and license the item. [Desi Sr. died in 1986 at 69 while Lucy died in 1989 at 77.]Lucie: Once someone famous dies, someone needs to run that estate forever.Any strange marketing pitches you heard that you simply declined?Desi: No images of Mother on toilet tissue.Lucie: Nobody would request for your!Desi: Somebody really did, and that we needed to say "no!"Lucie: It did not mean to become our life's work. We have got separate careers and families, but this factor has overtaken us such as the giant Godzilla monster. But you will find some perks into it to. We made the decision as we would spend X quantity of 100s of 1000's of dollars each year regulating what we should were not permitting, we may as well hire people to get it done right and transform it into a real business. Make real estate worth of Lucy and Desi stay as valuable because it was once they left us.Desi: It comes down to quality, not quantity. Let's say you sell everything out immediately then you do not have anything remaining. You do not sell the farm you let.Do both of you approve the I Really Like Lucy: Survive Stage show which has been playing to offered out audiences in La?Lucie: The I Really Like Lucy express is possessed by CBS. Anything that's in line with the scripts is controlled by CBS. The things they don't totally own may be the picture of Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo or Desi Aranz as Ough Ricardo. In some cases, as with the situation of dolls, you need to get permission from CBS as well as the estate of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.Desi: Like father was future thinking and stored their image and likeness privileges. Younger crowd set up half money for that pilot, so CBS wheeled and dealed with him within the discussions when it comes to who possessed what. What's next for you personally?Lucie: I come up with a hybrid version from the Babalu show having a 12-piece band in line with the Latin Roots Compact disc I launched. I discovered a method to do Babalu so that as a lot of Dad's plans that the lady can perform. It is extremely fun. And you will find there's wonderful one-lady show out I directed that people own a bit of known as A Night Time With Lucille Ball. Suzanne LaRusch may be the wonderful impressionist. There's nobody that can compare with her.Desi: I built the sets and that we released it inside my theater. It's Mother in her own late 50's, early 60's speaking to a lot of college kids about her existence. You've without doubt heard that William Frawley and Vivian Vance are now being awarded with a TV Academy Hall of Fame in a March 1 ceremony in Beverly Hillsides.Desi: I did not realize that!Lucie: Yes, finally! I recorded just a little video on their behalf today where I stated, "With respect to my mom and dad and also the I Really Like Lucy show, I wish to congratulate Vivian Vance and William Frawley for finally be awarded with a Hall of Fame like everybody else. Buddies and neighbors ought to be together. Now it's time."They didn't have children that belongs to them?Lucie: No, Vivian and Bill never did.Other things you want to tell TV Guide Magazine visitors?Desi: It is simply fun to become here with Lucie in La. Station Buy Give CBS Duopoly In NY Market
CBS Television Stations said today that it has inked a deal to acquire independent NY station WLNY-TV, giving CBS two stations in the nation’s largest media market. When the deal is approved, it will mark the 10th duopoly in 10 U.S. cities for CBS, joining Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, Miami, Sacramento and Pittsburgh. The combined strengths of CBS 2 and WLNY-TV will give us a terrific platform for serving the entire NY area,” CBS TV Stations president Peter Dunn said in the release announcing the deal. “Our plans for the station include adding people and resources to fuel a significant expansion of local news programming well beyond the nightly half-hour that currently airs.” WLNY is distributed in the NY-New Jersey-Connecticut tri-state area and on Long Island, where an expanded news bureau is expected. The station generated $3.8M in revenue last year, a tiny amount in the huge market, according to research firm BIA/Kelsey. But Wells Fargo analyst Marci Ryvicker calls the agreement “a smart, tuck-in acquisition that should provide some significant upside opportunities” for CBS.Duopolies typically generate more profit than stand-alone stations, she says, and WLNY has a lot of room to grow — especially if CBS makes it a player in local news.

Sienna Miller to Star as Tippi Hedren in BBC2 Movie About The Birds
This is far too intriguing not to think about for hours: The BBC2 just announced a project called The Girl, starring Sienna Miller as model-turned-actress Tippi Hedren and Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock, who obsessed over Hedren as they filmed the The Birds in northern California’s Bodega Bay. The extreme relationship between Hitch and Hedren, which included some violent bird-throwing sessions during one climactic scene, is well-documented and ready for re-inspection (as is any film starring the dashing Rod Taylor). But is this the most fascinating Hitchcock story to examine? We offer one other possible Hitchcock era that might be intriguing to revisit. But first, good news about The Girl: Looooongtime Hitchcock biographer Donald Spoto is signed on as a consultant, and Tippi Hedren has agreed to do interviews with screenwriter Gwyneth Hughes for the project. It appears this project has the potential to be — at the very least — accurate. And yet, The Birds would’ve been my second choice for a BBC chronicle. I’m partial to the endless disagreements behind Rebecca, Hitch’s 1940 Best Picture winner that marked his debut in America and a stormy partnership with David O. Selznick. Plus, maybe Judith Anderson can linger in the backdrop and cast frightening glances upon everything. Anyway, here’s Tippi Hedren’s amazing screen test for The Birds. Strut, turn, and pose, Melanie Daniels. Sienna Miller Is Tippi Hedren, Toby Jones Is Hitchcock In BBC2 Drama About ‘The Birds’ [Deadline]

Bad News, Julia Roberts: Mirror, Mirror's Online Praise Might Be Studio-Generated
Last week, you and I watched the first trailer for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror in slack-jawed horror. (After all, aren’t Snow White adaptations supposed to be about the titular princess and not Julia Roberts’s aging concerns, Bollywood dance numbers and Armie Hammer’s impression of a dog?) Surprisingly though, not all of the Internet’s feedback was negative. A few brave souls commented on the Relativity trailer enthusiastically — and now MovieMavericks.com is claiming that some of those suspicious thumbs-up reviews came from the same source. MovieMavericks.com points out that several “strangely optimistic comments” posted to their own Mirror, Mirror trailer write-up originated from the same IP address. Upon Google-searching those comments, MovieMavericks discovered that the same IP address user had posted the same positive reviews on other movie websites — leading them to believe that either A) There is just a very dedicated Brooklyn-based Tarsem Singh fan who is hellbent on raising the bar for Mirror, Mirror buzz. Or B) The studio (or a party involved with the film) is having someone do some web damage control on the atrocious-looking trailer. Among the copied and pasted positive remarks that MovieMavericks.com cites: · “Julia Roberts is going to be awesome as the Evil Queen. She’s such a good actress!” · “Definitely seeing this with my boyfriend! Can’t wait to see Lily Collins in action!!” · “Tareem [sic] Singh makes awesome movies. Immortals was amazing and this will be too.” For the record, the only positive comments that the trailer received when Movieline posted it last week were from user Laurietimes2 (“Count me in!!!”) and Rom Issy (“Beautiful scenery and costumes, fairytale story and a comedy? That rocks. In.”). Most commenters only had negative feedback though, exclaiming “AHAHAHAHAHA…oh wait, you mean it’s not a comedy?” or comparing it to a “90s ABC Disney TV-Movie musical” and calling Lily Collins’s Snow White “a plain looking woman with Dan Hedaya eyebrows!” Do you think that the strangely positive remarks about a trailer that looks exceptionally bad is studio-related? Please let me know in the comments section below after watching Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer in the Mirror, Mirror trailer. Maybe you’ll discover that the film is “definitely worth seeing” upon second viewing. · Mirror, Mirror Astroturfing — Who’s Behind It? [MovieMavericks.com] via Who’s Faking ‘Mirror Mirror’ Praise? Beyond people large-budget spectacles, he's lately been turning up in quieter indie fare, including "Shame," an NC-17 drama where Fassbender stars just like a sex addict and stays an effective volume of screen time bearing much not just his soul. Beaufoy Writing Hunger Games Sequel?
Lionsgate is after his servicesClearly confident that The Hunger Games will tap its built-in, book-fed audience to deliver solid box office returns, Lionsgate is making sure the machine is up and running to keep on pumping out cinematic adaptations. A key part of that is getting a script ready for the second instalment, Catching Fire, and the studio is now trying to hire 127 Hours scriptwriter Simon Beaufoy to make that happen.According to Deadline, the original plan was for Hunger Games co-writer/director Gary Ross to take on the task, but he's understandably a little busy putting the finishing touches to the film in advance of its March 23 release date. While Games author Suzanne Collins also collaborated on the first movie's screenplay (which then got some polishing from Billy Ray), it would appear that Lionsgate is looking outside the original team to at least get the early drafts written. Though it's likely that Collins will once more get plenty of input.Mild spoiler alert here for anyone who has yet to read either of the first two books: Catching Fire finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) punished for their defiance by being forced to compete in a special 75th staging of the games where they must compete against past winners. As of right now, Beaufoy's involvement is still closer to rumour status, since no official talks have taken place. And if you've yet to see the trailer for the first film, you can see it right here.
Shawn Stockmans Sing-Off Blog: The Companies & Destroyers In Hollywood
First Launched: November 16, 2011 2:47 PM EST Credit: Getty Premium La, Calif. -- Caption Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Males undertaking through the Rachael Ray Show at Pats King of Meat in Philadelphia, PA., August 30, 2011Wow, this type of questionable week! Im in Japan at this time around therefore i required to watch the show from this level. Incidentally, I obtained an chance to visit the city of Sendai, where epicenter in the large quake was as well as the tsunami that adopted on March 11. To witness the communal feeling and the way resilient individuals listed below are is actually inspiring which i had been honored to own been welcomed here together with your memorable warmth! Now, since the competition can get closer to the best 3, it'll get progressively more intense, as well as the margin of error is extremely slim! The critiques become a bit more meticulous, for which is at risk can be a existence changing recording contract while using giant record company The brand new the new sony. Because of the choices my co-idol idol judges which i made on who was simply removed within the show, these past handful of episodes were checked out by lots of, which for your record, we appear to understand is simply work hazard and they come in the territory. Plenty of you asked for me in my Twitter page, some with pronounced irateness I'd add, lol, Exactly how should we showed up at our options? Ill try to describe it fireproof as you can: Inside the initial few episodes, as in comparison towards the ladder ones, its pretty apparent. Though every group is amazing, its apparent to us which has more depth of area to experience a long-term inside the competition. Since the days continue, and Ill speak only for myself, I aim to find the crowd who although sing a cappella, since with a particular reason for year everyone around the program is damn good, but who is able to translate adequate the general public will buy their record. I look for an appeal overall, together with an organization which i've the people will communicate with instantly, not just musically, but personally! Now music generally is subjective, and nowadays it's very difficult to sell records of any type so That does not mean our options will be perfect. Reason for fact, once you are in a position to the ultimate five, normally such groups surely could have a prosperous career inside the music biz! Nonetheless its a few things i see in those days. Here's an example, Vocal Point is certainly an incredible quantity of males from Provo, Utah that nailed mainly EVERY performance! They were creative, fun to check out as well as the women loved them. My only problem in the event you even desire to think of it as that's their front guy place. You really didnt have a very stand out a few males who might have been the facial skin in the group. Their cohesiveness was their gift in addition to their curse, because in my opinion there wasnt someone who totally different from the machine! Wonderful that being mentioned, I still feel there's a go at being amazing recording artists and artists. However when you perform a comparison for the other groups inside the competition, In my opinion you'll learn how it is I'm speaking about. Thats a trade secret I merely gave you, and this blog will self-destruct in a few seconds. Before it'll, I felt the need to take advantage from the space Access Hollywood has given me to philosophize on the couple of a few things i consider throughout my travels (refuse to, I appear as being a lonely hunter or something like that like this). Anyway Ever witness a kid enjoy LEGOS? To witness a youthful child put a great deal thought and time to creating something is actually awe-inspiring! You will see the pleasure they get of the numerous single piece they stack inside their visionary formation the chunky yellow ones, the small petite red-colored-colored ones, the half-moon created blue ones, all in perfect symmetry to create what this child is creating within the ideas within the beautiful mind. When its finally complete, when the LEGO masterpiece features its own last and final component carefully complied, ever see another child come and kick over that creation! The youthful architect instantly evolves tears within the eyes, angry, yet also hurt that a person would do this kind of mean and evil factor! The simple truth is instantly brought to emerged within the interaction between two children. That the simple truth is, around, you will discover Companies and DESTROYERS! I have been lucky enough to get be around both finishes in the yin as well as the yang! One can learn from both, basically the best way to be and the way Not to be!! Personally, i'm inspired by companies because of their concentrate on detail in addition to their capacity to produce something from nothing! To witness several males and girls around the tv series construct harmony from absolutely nothing to create a appear that can bring the on looker of millions to numerous feelings is amazing and never tiring to find out! To check out my partner in some manner possess a household together and also have time to ensure Im cared for, to seeing my mother raise FIVE kids practically manually, to my father never flailing within the values in succeeding as positive in whatever result in choose to get familiar with, to seeing my own, personal group people to use it after we develop most likely the most amazing music Ive heard, Ive been fortunate to get along with greatness nearly all my existence! Companies! The primary one factor everybody has to keep is that they have that which you call, TALENT, SKILL, the capacity to actually take action that benefits others naturally! To gold gold coin my own, personal phrase, lol, people who destroy are often TALENTLESS, and MAD relating to this! Take a look around, and you'll see based on that definition which team you should devote your precious attention and time for you to, in many areas of existence! Build or destroy, are you going to! -SHAWN Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Corporation. All rights reserved. These elements is probably not launched, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

I hurt my feet on Snow Whitened, obviously, because I actually do that to myself constantly, she shrugged. I had been playing around on Snow Whitened, and I am inclined to hurt myself after i get really into stuff and that i made it happen again, she further described. Its not too shabby. Contender: 'Super 8'
'Super 8'If this year's newly elastic best-picture race allows a summer blockbuster to slip in, Paramount's alien-invasion thriller "Super 8" could well be the prime beneficiary. Greeted in June with largely admiring notices and a better-than-expected $127 million domestic gross, this unusual passion project found writer-director J.J. Abrams embarking on a unique professional and spiritual collaboration with producer Steven Spielberg, paying affectionate tribute to classics like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T." (That both films were up for multiple Oscars has to be considered a good omen.)A reliable Par hitmaker socking over his first non-franchise outing, Abrams imbues the film with a deeply personal touch that never gets lost amid the impressive visual effects, the often seat-rattling sound design and the enchantingly retro art direction, re-creating a classically Spielbergian small town circa 1979.In a fairly slim year for kudo-worthy scripts not based on published material, Abrams' inventive synthesis of innumerable sci-fi and coming-of-age touchstones could well bend the Academy's definition of "original screenplay." And while "Super 8" isn't the sort of picture that draws attention for its acting, many critics singled out the remarkably poised and poignant supporting turn of Elle Fanning, ably demonstrating that for the part of a talented young actress, it helps to cast one.Release date: June 10ParamountRead the Variety review Contact Justin Chang at justin.chang@variety.com

Brett Ratner's Apologies: The Ultimate Stand
By John Mitchell Brett Ratner is presently on some type of apology tour after having an anti-gay slur throughout an problem-and-answer session while marketing "Tower Heist." His latest atonement, undertaking a proper apology and also the resignation as producer of next year's Oscars, is, like Tracy Morgan before him, to synergy with GLAAD to "convene public discussions featuring leaders inside the entertainment industry about marketing fair and accurate inclusions of LGBT people and tales." "Once we sitting lower with Brett today, he made an appearance very sincere within the desire to make use of this experience in order to begin speaking against anti-gay language in popular culture, Herndon Graddick, GLAAD's senior director of Programs and Communications, mentioned in the statement. That's all good and, clearly, it's admirable that he's just a little responsibility for saying something as foolish as "Testing is ideal for f**s." But seriously. How come nobody calling this individual around the relaxation of the things that he's been proclaiming that he needs to be apologizing for? Namely the misogynistic and racist remarks he gained about Olivia Munn and Lindsay Lohan. Let's start with the grossest of all the frat-guy trash this dude has offered up recently. Within a telephone call to Howard Stern's radio show, Ratner joined rather graphic detail about his relationship getting a "very youthful" Lindsay Lohan. He boasted about undertaking dental sex on Lohan, saying, "I'm possibly the best on earth,In . adding they know he's the most effective "since they cry." More youthful crowd recognized he'd Lohan examined for STDs just before the 2 rested together in 2006 you understand, when she was 20 which he was 37. "Before I've intercourse getting a woman, I really do do one strange factor, Ratner told Stern. I really do take em for the physician and search em out. Im as being a cootie freak. Im a germaphobe. Im a hypochondriac. Before The year progresses completely, I send the woman for the physician and search them for everything. My physician features a test to see if you'll probably catch something afterwards even. For your record, Lohan came back clean. Should not you be very glad you will be aware? He ongoing to recount how Lohan later found him in bed mattress getting a Victoria's Secret model as well as the two experienced a fight over him. In the separate but equally stylish and appropriate conversation on G4's "Attack in the Show," Ratner copped to being the not named director stated in Olivia Munn's book "Suck It, Question Lady: The Misadventures from the Hollywood Geek," acknowledging he "knocked her a few occasions" but did not remember who she was when she later showed up to audition for him. He did, however, deny Munn's account he masturbated before her while eating a shrimp cocktail, but really didn't undertake her charge he was, er, packing a shrimp that belongs to them. While all the sex discuss Munn and Lohan is patently tasteless, it's another quote about Munn which get under my skin more. "We used so far Olivia Munn when she was Lisa. That was the problem,Inch he told "AOTS" host Kevin Pereira. "She wasn't Asian in individuals days.Inch What? His point, I suppose, is always that Munn now allegedly plays up her race like it's some type of Hollywood wild card. That possibly it's some type of joke when she does research on "The Daily Show" becasue it is "Senior Asian Correspondent" because it wasn't listed just like a talent on her behalf account resume when he first met "Lisa." This can be a pretty crazy step to toss available so offhandedly, yes? At first, I figured the Academy made the wrong choice in giving Ratner the reins round the finest evening in Hollywood. He's a financially effective director, yes, but more youthful crowd features a well-deserved status for frat boy antics and lowbrow humor, neither that have devote the Academy awards. Say what you need to in regards to the Oscars namely that they may be boring but they're not lowbrow and given Ratner's recent string of public misfires, specifically those he's not apologized for, "lowbrow" is almost really the only word we could consider to describe the almost-Oscar producer. 5 Feasible Storylines for the Where's Waldo Movie
In an age of Battleship movies and Carmen Sandiego features, it’s no surprise that another kid-friendly nostalgia icon, the bespectacled title traveler of Where’s Waldo, is purportedly getting his own movie. MGM bought the rights to Waldo, and that could mean a feature adaptation of the smiley boulevardier’s exploits is in our near future. I don’t know how a man in a striped shirt who gets lost in crowds can sustain an audience’s attention for a full movie, but here are five possible storylines I’d tolerate. 1. Waldo must track down his brother Odlaw, a tacky schemer whose black-and-yellow ensemble is aesthetically inferior to Waldo’s classic red-and-whites. Odlaw has run off to Europe with Waldo’s life savings, and Waldo must find him in unbelievably crowded cityscapes before he spends it all on black-and-yellow real estate. 2. Waldo ditches his soulmate Wilma for a flashy adventurer named Carmen Sandiego. They have a lot in common: They both love globetrotting, being hard to find, and well-fitted red garments. The only problem? She’s a notorious con artist and thief, and he’s just a sexless cipher in straight-cut blue jeans. Can Waldo, who just wants to blend in at the Louvre, sustain a relationship with a woman who wants to steal the whole Louvre? 3. It’s a sad Christmas for Waldo as his family loses sight of him inside the local candy cane factory. Is that him behind some red and white storage bins? Are those his glasses peeking out from under an American flag? In the end, the holiday is saved as Waldo and his family fly to North Pole, discover the real meaning of Christmas, and get lost in a Santa hat factory. 4. Waldo, an underpaid lackey at an accounting firm (of endlessly repetitive cubicles and characters), is greeted in a dreamy haze by Wizard Whitebeard, who promises to show Waldo the world and save him from his humdrum existence. He takes the young troubadour to the Great Wall of China, crowded beaches, and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. So many people to meet! So much adventure! But Waldo realizes that he’s just too feeble for glamorous travel, so he clutches his walking stick and asks to be taken home to his sweatered dog Woof. 5. No plot. Just moviegoers staring at a grim red and white-striped screen, searching for an original idea somewhere in each frame. MGM finds rights to ‘Where’s Waldo’ [Variety]

Shane Meadows Making Stone Roses Film
We need him to tell us what's going downAfter an acrimonious decade or so, '90s indie kings The Stone Roses have put aside their differences and announced a series of comeback gigs. There was a certain amount of speculation last week as to why Shane Meadows was lurking at the press conference, but now we know: Meadows has been commissioned to make a film about the Stone Roses' return. He's going to show us a vision, a wild apparition, that sings to the depths of our souls. Or something. For our younger readers, The Stone Roses - singer Ian Brown, guitar hero John Squire, bassist Mani and drummer Reni - slouched to the top of the indie charts in the late '80s, with a self-titled debut album and infectiously groovy singles like Elephant Stone, She Bangs the Drums, and the quintessential Fool's Gold. They were at the vanguard of Madchester, although a bitter dispute with their record label Silvertone (which at one point saw the band trashing the Silvertone offices with paint) meant they effectively sat out the whole scene. They eventually resurfaced in 1994 for the Second Coming LP, but half the band quit during the ensuing tour.Time and potential earnings can heal a lot of rifts though, and the fact that ticket sales for the comeback gigs in the hour they first became available were somewhere in the region of £20m, suggests that the Roses have good reason to be nice to each other for a while. But if Meadows, making his documentary debut, is given all-areas access and final cut, there's every chance that we'll see some interesting behind-the-scenes drama. There's also the angle that the band were always notoriously awful live... We're sure they'll carry on through it all.The Sheffield and London-based Warp Films are behind the production. Appropriate that, since not only does their resume include music documentaries (The Arctic Monkeys; the All Tomorrow's Parties festival), but they also brought us Meadows' Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England. Away from fractious baggy bands, Meadows is also currently working on further This Is England series' for TV: This Is England '88 and '90 will follow last year's '86.

Tough battle for SAG-AFTRA merger plan
Plans to merge Hollywood's two biggest performer unions appear likely to face some significant opposition --based on a pair of advisory motions approved Sunday at the Screen Actors Guild's national membership meeting. Leaders of SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have continued targeting January for completing a final proposal. SAG and AFTRA issued a joint statement Wednesday, a day after a five-day meeting concluded, asserting that the confab had been ''remarkably productive.'' But most of the 180 attending SAG's member meeting Sunday indicated opposition to a merger, sources said. The event, held at SAG headquarters in the mid-Wilshire area, was open only to guild members. One advisory motion to the national board specified that a minority report be included in the merger referendum regardless of the vote of the board. Another advisory motion required that the board adhere to the three-decade-old Phase 1 agreement, which requires both unions to perform a feasibility study regarding the SAG pension and health plans prior to a merger vote. The SAG plans -- which recently announced tightened eligibility requirements -- are operated independently of SAG with oversight from reps of the guild and the congloms Merger advocates have asserted that the combined unions will have more clout. Sources also said that SAG Treasurer Amy Aquino told that audience that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers -- which serves as the congloms' bargaining arm and hasn't taken an official position -- does not want SAG and AFTRA to merge. ''They are afraid of a merger,'' Aquino said. SAG president Ken Howard -- who has been a strong advocate of merger -- presided over the meeting. Along with Aquino, national VPs Ned Vaughn, Mike Hodge and David Hartley-Margolin were on the dais along with SAG national exec director David White and general counsel Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. SAG and AFTRA have disclosed only general details about the substance of discussions to hammer out a merger plan. Proponents have argued that a combined union would be more powerful and remove jurisdictional overlaps. Opponents have contended that the new union should be for actors only but SAG voters have been backing pro-merger candidates overwhelmingly in recent elections. Should the proposal be approved in January by the national boards, members could be asked to vote by next spring in a contest that would require 60% of those voting in each union to approve. SAG currently has about 120,000 members while AFTRA has about 70,000 with about 45,000 performers belonging to both unions. SAG members voted down merger proposals in 1999 and 2003. Producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall Near Deal to Move From Sony to DreamWorks (Exclusive)
In a move that is both logical and somewhat surprising, the Kennedy/Marshall production company has left Sony Pictures and is negotiating a first-look deal with DreamWorks. The company headed by prolific producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall departs Sony after two years without a greenlight from the studio. The move to DreamWorks reunites the husband-and-wife team with their longtime associates, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks CEO Stacey Snider. "It's nice to be home again," Marshall tells The Hollywood Reporter. What's unexpected is that DreamWorks, which has been operating under tight financial constraints, is making a production deal. In a recent interview, Snider told THR that the company's chief financial backer, India's Reliance, is giving DreamWorks "real" and "absolute" support. But she acknowledged that the company has cut back on buying scripts, describing that as "prudent management." Given Kennedy/Marshall's track record, the move also is a sign of the difficult times facing film producers. Though many projects were offered, Marshall acknowledges, "We didn't bring them a movie they wanted to make." Kennedy is the producer on Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse, which will be released on Dec. 25. She is also producing his next film, Lincoln, set for a December 2012 release, and she is likely to take on the director's Robopocalypse. Marshall is working on The Bourne Legacy for Universal, which is set to hit theaters in August 2012. Kennedy and Marshall have worked with Spielberg for decades on such signature films as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List. 24 Movie Almost Has a Script, and 5 Other Stories You'll be talking About Today
Happy Tuesday! Also in today’s edition of The Broadsheet: Warner Bros. wants a Leonardo DiCaprio franchise… David Cronenberg has The Fly and Eastern Promises sequels on the brain… Fox fires back at those litigious Black Swan interns… Are you ready for some football nonsensical racist celebrity spewage?… and more. · Good-ish news for Jack Bauer fans hungrily awaiting the rumored big-screen adaptation of 24 to the big screen: Kiefer Sutherland says there’s a script! Almost! Sort of? “We are coming very close to having a finished script. That’s been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us. We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it - but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes, we definitely do plan on making the film.” Believe it when you see it, but hey. FYI. [The Telegraph] · Speaking of Hollywood glaciers, let’s see how quickly — if at all — Warner Bros. can turn around Satori, the Don Winslow best-seller it has acquired as a possible franchise for Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor, whose production company is involved with development (the initial project has a script forthcoming from Winslow and Shane Salerno), would play “a Westerner, raised in Japan and taught an assassin’s skills, who gets caught up in the chaos of post-WWII as the U.S., Soviet Union, France and China maneuver for power in Southeast Asia in the early 1950s.” And apparently he’s good at… board games. Seriously. [Deadline] · How about a run through David Cronenberg’s pending IMDB profile, including ayes on those rumored The Fly and Eastern Promises follow-ups and a nay on Timecrimes? And Cosmopolis, about which Cronenberg declaimed: “Most of the movie takes place inside a limo, so some people would say that’s not cinematic, but I say it is!” Allllll I needed to hear. [Shock Till Ya Drop] · Fox is officially passing the buck to Darren Aronofsky and Co. in the Case of the Sue-Happy Black Swan Interns: “These interns were not even retained by Fox Searchlight and, in fact, were working for the production company that made Black Swan well before Fox Searchlight even acquired its rights in the film.” [Deadline] · Simon Cowell and his high-stakes talent-search gamble The X Factor are not failures, says Simon Cowell. [AP] · It took an unfortunate, utterly irrational comparison between Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler to make it happen, but we finally, finally got a Monday Night Football broadcast minus the hoary old Hank Williams Jr. theme song. ESPN pulled it after the country star’s ridiculous comments on Fox and Friends, which you’ll find below. Also: OMG that Eric Foster injury. If that was a dislocated right ankle, then I have totally misunderstood the way bones work all these years. [NFL.com]

Hank Williams Jr Song Pulled From Monday Night Football After Singers Obama Remark
Tonight’s Monday Night Football game will not be preceded by Hank Williams Jr’s famous opening song. ESPN pulled the opening after Williams compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler this morning on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends.”While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football,” ESPN said in a statement. “We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.””All My Rowdy Friends” has been the MNF theme song on both ESPN and ABC for the past 20 years. Williams says his comment about Obama was misunderstood. On Fox & Friends he saidhe thinks House Speaker John Boehner playing golf with President Obama “would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu. … In the shape this country is in?” (Boehner and Obama played golf together this summer during the debate over the budget crisis.) Williams released the following statement through his publicist: “My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me — how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president.” Watch The Hangover 2 Full Movie

The ultimate dance is originating for your Broadway outpost of "Billy Elliot," which has set a closing date of Jan. 8. Production taken the 2010 Tonys, retrieved its $18 million capital within 14 several days and until this year consistently drenched weekly sales of $millions of or maybe more. Still, the tuner couldn't manage the sturdiness of hit U.K. imports such as the 10-year-old "Mamma Mia!" REVIEW: Take Shelter Raises the Question, How Much Michael Shannon Is Too Much?
Casting Michael Shannon as a potential psychotic is a bit like crowing over the discovery that water is wet. And sure enough, in Jeff Nichols’s Take Shelter, Shannon gets his chance to go all bug-eyed and thin-lipped, to sweat through his clothes, to go ballistic on the neighbors, warning them that a big storm is coming and it’s going to wipe them out if they don’t get ready. Shannon has certainly cornered the cuckoo-bird market, and how you feel about Take Shelter will depend largely on how you respond to his patented nutcase technique. But in terms of overall filmmaking, writer-director Nichols — who previously made the 2007 Shotgun Stories — knows what he’s doing. He’s so adept at layering eerie semi-naturalistic details — skies that seem to be glowering at the whole human race, rain beating down with the fury of millions of tiny, punishing fists — that I wanted to stick with him to see where he was going with it all. His idea — that nature is both inside and outside of us, and in neither case is it something to trifle with — is unsettling at its core. Shannon is precisely the actor you’d first think to cast in this material — which may be the problem. Shannon’s character, a hardworking Midwestern family man named Curtis, has been having apocalyptic dreams and visions: Birds arrange themselves strange formations in the sky; yellow rain falls from above, as if God were expressing his dissatisfaction with mankind by taking one giant whiz all over the heartland. Is all of this really happening? Or is Curtis suffering the early stages of paranoid schizophrenia? His wife, Samantha (Jessica Chastain), is baffled by his behavior: First he turns the gentle, loyal family dog outside after dreaming that the dog attacks him; then he takes out a massive loan to spiff up the family’s tornado shelter in preparation for the big biblical showdown he knows is coming. Samantha is none too happy about either of those things, particularly the latter, considering the couple’s young daughter (Tova Stewart), who is deaf, has some upcoming heavy-duty medical expenses. The first third of Take Shelter is suitably unnerving. Nichols knows how to use the landscape (and CGI-enhanced weather) to build a sense of dread: The family’s modest house, somewhere out in rural Ohio, ought to be cozy and safe, but it seems isolated and exposed, a sitting target in an expanse of brownish grass and grayish sky. Even the more peaceful sequences — like the one in which Samantha and her young daughter gaze out the window while a rainstorm rages outside — are draped with ominous portent. But I can’t help wondering how Take Shelter would play with a different star, one who hasn’t already done the pop-eyed nutter routine to death. With Shannon, I feel I’ve seen it too many times before, and once — even just his turn in William Friedkin’s Bug — would have been more than enough. The economics of star casting aside, what would Take Shelter have been like with James McAvoy or Mark Wahlberg or Jake Gyllenhaal at its center? Even though the picture ends with a question mark, Shannon still manages to give the whole game away in the first frame — his very presence shows you where the movie is headed. On the other hand, Jessica Chastain, in one of her 1,001 movie roles this year, is far more restrained and more moving. She plays a character whose common sense is commingled with fear — and that, as it turns out, is probably the combination she needs to survive. Chastain is this year’s “it” girl for sure, but one of her gifts is her ability to portray regular people without playing down to them: In Take Shelter you never get the sense that she’s uglied herself up to play real folk, to get down with the people. She’s always effortlessly believable, whether her character is hustling in the kitchen to get breakfast together for her daughter or gazing into her husband’s eyes, trying to fathom the weird secrets he has locked in his cranium. Chastain’s face, whether she’s expressing wonder or anxiety, is the movie’s most reliable weather report and its most sensitive lightning rod: Looking at that face, you’d have no reason to believe that either God or his good pal Mother Nature could be angry with her. The suggestion that not even she can escape their wrath is what makes Take Shelter so disquieting. Allocine unveils TV channel plans
PARIS -- Paris-based film and TV news website Allocine unveiled its game plan for its new TV channel Tuesday. The channel, also called Allocine, bowed on Sept. 5. on seven digital satellite, cable and DSL nets in Gaul. It has inked library deals with Gaumont, Warner Bros., Pathe, Wild Side and Bac to acquire classic films. Allocine's programming slate includes Stanley Donen's "Singin' in the Rain," Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita," Rene Clair's "Le Dernier Milliardaire" and William Keighley's "The Master of Ballantrae." In the vein of a film club, Allocine will program classic films four times a week in primetime, as well as talkshows centering on film news and analysis. Films will be presented by Allocine journos or a public figure, and each evening will begin with a Tex Avery short. Our idea is not to compete with other channels by acquiring recent films; what we want is to showcase the French and international film heritage," explained Allocine's head of video services Alain Le Diberder, who said half of the films will be shown in their original version. Allocine's prexy Gregoire Lassalle added: "Only 10% of library films circulate in France. What's the point of spending so much money to digitize films if no one ever gets a chance to see them?" With an annual budget of up to Euros 8 million ($11 million), Allocine's TV channel can reach up to 35 million viewers, and should become financially viable within the next three years thanks to ad revenues, said Lassalle. As Allocine's TV channel is labeled as a generalist TV network by the CSA, France's media authority, it must invest a small percentage of its annual revenue in the acquisition and co-production of films as well as TV shows focusing on films. Lassalle said he would consider launching Allocine on DTT as well, although there was no immediate plan to do so. The exec said the company was also studying opportunities to set up TV operations in Russia, Turkey and China. Created by Lassalle in 1993, Allocine operates local versions of the website in Canada, Brazil, the U.K., Germany, Turkey, China, Spain and Russia, and will expand into Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Australia and the Middle East by December 2012. The Wood
John Viscardi can be a reporter who exposes police brutality against immigrant Vladimir Versailles. Melanie Charles might be the sufferers wife.
A Rattlestick Playwrights Theater presentation from the play by 50 percent operates by Serta Klores. Directed by David Bar Katz. Justin Volpe - Michael Carlsen
Micheline Louima - Melanie Charles
Tommy - David Deblinger
Alice McAlary - Kim Director
Abner Louima - Vladimir Versailles
Mike McAlary - John ViscardiDocumentary filmmaker Serta Klores brings a film eye to "The Wood," his reverential bio-dram about Mike McAlary, the muckraking New you are able to city newspaper author who won a Pulitzer in 1998 for his sensational expose of police brutality against Haitian immigrant Abner Louima. Episodic and unfocused within the overlong first act, show pulls itself together in act two for a lot of tough moments between Louima and McAlary, who die of cancer at 41, twelve months later on he won his Pulitzer. The material has energy, nevertheless the whole structure in the piece needs overhauling to produce a real impact. Two solid perfs from John Viscardi (as McAlary) and Vladimir Versailles (as Louima) and nice backup from Kim Director and Melanie Charles (their particular partners) give ballast for the jumpy production helmed by David Bar Katz. Viscardi nails both newspaper hunger that made McAlary this kind of tenacious news hound which attitude of empathy and knowing that made people trust him utilizing their finest secrets. He's also winning when McAlary addresses everyone else right to reveal a real love for cutthroat journalism, a sense of justice that made him a "superhero for your working class," plus an ego how large a house. Versailles is most encouraging inside the hospital moments in which a badly beaten Louima bares his humiliation and discomfort for the reporter who splash his story round the most visited page in the Daily News. More youthful crowd determines great rapport with Charles, so touching as Louima's troubled wife. Nevertheless it takes an unendurable time period before Louima arrives in the shadows to target McAlary's attention and point the play in the dramatic direction. For the time being, Klores uses quantity of sketchy moments -- developed in no consistent style and completed much the same way -- to accomplish McAlary's backstory and flesh the smoothness from the driven guy, so competitive he'd skip chemotherapy to chase lower a news tip. There can be an excellent play in here somewhere, but at this time around it's a jumble of bits and pieces waiting for the rewrite desk.Sets, John McDermott costumes, Kalere A.
